FAQ'S ABOUT THE TUSTIN SCORPIONS

How are the TUSTIN SCORPIONS different from Little League?
The Tustin Scorpions organization introduce the fundamentals of baseball to youth players and graduate to teaching the intricacies of baseball at a higher level. We also play using the real rules of baseball -- holding runners on base, stealing bases, live ball situations and dropped third strike rules. The rules are similar to those used in the MLB with age appropriate modifications and field dimensions that are more suitable to the players age.

Does our player have to be an All-Star or a top player from the area?
Not at all. We take pride developing players at all levels of their baseball experience. We believe in teaching proper fundamentals, offering repetitive practice and providing game time experience to improve players skill level.

How Serious is the Tustin Scorpion program?
The Tustin Scorpion program has trimmed down to just five teams and each coach takes the coaching aspect very seriously but allows for fun and reward along the way. Each coach believes in the philosophy of teaching each player the necessary work ethic, attitude and habits needed to stand out and enhance their skills. In 2014 all of the Scorpions who play little league were selected to their leagues All-Star team.

Are there any other expenses to join the Tustin Scorpions?
The Tustin Scorpions program requires the parents to chip in to help pay for equipment, training fees, uniforms, tournament fees. The team does have coaches that are paid that do not have a son on the team. The goal is to allow all players to compete on a level playing field without the daddy ball that occurs on many travel ball teams. This also allows us to bring in experienced coaches that will help your player improve their individual baseball skills. For example our current hitting coach is also the varsity hitting coach at Orange Lutheran high school who played professional baseball, and our pitching coach also pitched in the MLB, his last 4 with the Texas Rangers and is the current high school varsity head coach at a local high school.

Do high school coaches look at Travel Baseball players differently?
Not necessarily, but most high school players come directly out of the local Travel Ball teams and feeder programs because the players are readily prepared for high school level baseball.

Do we have to travel far distances?
We will generally practice in the city of Tustin. We may occasionally travel to play scrimmages or in tournaments. During the fall baseball season, we likely will play on Sundays and may travel to neighboring  baseball parks in Orange County. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, we usually travel to Las Vegas to play in the Cranberry Classic.
